myBrickfields.com.my is a major community initiative by Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB), driven by its flagship project Kuala Lumpur Sentral as a vehicle to collaborate with its fence line community, Brickfields. Continuously striving towards building a better tomorrow for the nation, MRCB has implemented myBrickfields.com.my, aimed at building relationships and communities within Brickfields, and helping to reach out to this old but thriving community.
How it all started In early 2007, Balan Moses, author of Brickfields: A Time, A Place, A Memory, launched his book which depicted a personal account of the transformation of one of Malaysia’s oldest quarters. In conjunction with the launch, Kuala Lumpur Sentralpurchased 1,000 books to declare its support for heritage conservation, helping underprivileged communities and elevating standards of its surrounding communities, all of which are in line with the essence of the book.
Kuala Lumpur Sentral itself has played a significant role in this transformation process especially in the last 10 years, witnessing a rapid emergence from what was Kuala Lumpur’s old railway marshalling yard into an exclusive urban centre built around Malaysia’s largest transit hub, offering global connectivity, excellent investment opportunities, business convenience and an international lifestyle.
This commitment was then demonstrated through the ‘Kuala Lumpur Sentral-Brickfields Community’ breakfast session held in Brickfields in May 2007. The session, where Kuala Lumpur Sentral met key representatives of organisations within the Brickfields community to better understand their needs, was to declare MRCB’s commitment to helping its surrounding communities flourish while preserving its true heritage.
While Kuala Lumpur Sentral has played a part in propelling the surrounding community, especially Brickfields, into a modern and vibrant identity, this book is an important recollection of memories – memories we must preserve, bearing in mind that there should be a fine balance between preservation and advancement. We are proud that Kuala Lumpur Sentral has positively contributed to the soul of Brickfields, rather than taken away its rich heritage.
The objective of this portal is to connect and mobilize the Brickfields community, authorities and organizations, as well as to serve as a point of communication within the community, authorities and general public, help increase the use of ICT to promote visibility to the cause, encourage partnerships for a variety of
activities between all stakeholders.
As a key facilitator, Kuala Lumpur Sentral aims to bring the community together as one through events, activities, joint-programmes and forums to make Brickfields a stronger and well-recognised community.
